Wellesley Street Lights Going Green
Traditional high-pressure sodium and metal halide street lights are going to be replaced in the town of Wellesley MA. Wellesley is taking a greener step toward its lighting by replacing approximately 500 of its street lights with a LED variety. The town is expecting the lights to save on electricity and be gentler on the environment.
The new lights in Wellesley are more expensive than traditional street lights but the savings of having the LED lights will cover the upfront cost over time. The change in street lights is a move meant to save on electricity costs, approximately $100,000 is expected to be cut from the current costs for electricity for street lights in Wellesley. What makes the LED street lights green is the fact that they take much less energy to light and by doing so reduce their carbon footprint significantly.
