Needham MA is a Town Rich with History
Needham MA is a town rich with history. Settled in 1680, the town of Needham was officially incorporated in 1711. The town got its name from an English town of the same name. The west parish of Needham was incorporated into the Town of Wellesley in 1881. On Thanksgiving Day in 1882 the high school football teams of Wellesley and Needham began playing each other and have kept the rivalry going ever since. The rivalry game between Wellesley High School and Needham High School is the second longest high school football rivalry in the United States. Wellesley got the town hall out of the deal and Needham had to build itself a new town hall which was completed in December of 1903.
Today, Needham is a thriving and popular suburban community of approximately 29,000 residents. Needhamites take great pride in their public schools (ranked among top in the state), public services, neighborhoods and bustling downtown restaurant scene. A convenient commute into Boston (four train stations) and easy access to Route 128 make Needham a sought after community.
