Free parking for the holiday season has been approved for downtown Needham MA, helping out merchants during a crucial shopping time. The parking is free in Needham now through January first.  The true catalyst for the free parking is the construction that will be occurring for sidewalk repairs and water main work.  The merchants in Needham have been worried that the construction will lure people away from downtown Needham and have them shopping elsewhere.  The hope is that free parking will keep people shopping locally and the town has done a nice job working with the merchants in what has already proved to be a difficult year.
